Tiny scraps…
One of the little positives I’ve found these last 7 months is embracing simplicity, including using what I’ve got on hand well. When a trip to Trader Joe’s necessitates a mask, sanitizer, and a Nascar-grade ability to dodge carts and their drivers, I’ve learned to look in the fridge and think, “Well, those 5 random bits just might make a meal.” That sentiment translates to my studio and classroom. Collage is huge on my creative agenda (talk about using tiny scraps!), and at school, I’ve a pile of little wood panels thanks to our tech ed teacher and some students who practiced their skills on the band saw before we were all sent home.
What better to paint on these little scraps than some tiny birds? Exactly. This orange-breasted juvenile robin is perched on a panel not much bigger than a playing card (3” x 4”, $45). I’ve so many projects going now—Notre Dame collages, more of “the 12” paintings, and a couple more tiny birds on tiny scraps. More soon!
