Pandemic Postcards

Creating these postcards lets us not only consider those places and activities we may have taken for granted previously, but also lets us spend time in a hopeful state while creating. A win-win, right?

First, consider those places you’d love to go “when this is over”. Make a list and narrow it down to 6 or 8.

Next, cut watercolor paper or any thicker paper with some tooth (it will feel rough to the touch, and this roughness is what grabs watercolor paint) into 4” x 6” traditional postcard sizes.

Lightly draw in pencil those places you’d like to go. Feel free to use online images to help you with a visual prompt. Play with fonts if you’d like, to get that postcard title feel.

Trace your pencil with sharpie. Attach postcards to any hard surface with some painter’s tape on the edges, which keeps the paper flat as it dries and gives you that nice white border to boot.

Fill in with watercolor. If you don’t have watercolor, colored pencil or marker would work beautifully here, too—and the painters tape part can be skipped.

…enjoy.
