the 5 minute challenge

sunflower

I created a similar painting a few years ago and was tickled to sell it within hours. When I started my 5 minute challenge—to find 12 images to paint in all my little piles of inspirational photos—this one popped out right away. I took it years ago, when I literally ran through a summer wildflower garden neighbors planted on either side of their sidewalk. It was filled with cosmos, sunflowers, Mexican geum, globe amaranth, zinnias…pretty much a Greatest Hits of Anne’s Favorite Annuals. I’m so pleased that the neighbors have recreated it almost every year since.

After the timer buzzed, I looked at my assorted pics and realized though they were all different in scale (some more distant landscapes, some close ups like this), they all had to do with nature and family and things that bring joy: everything from a pile of books to a bowl of blueberries to a younger Clare holding a baby rabbit. I’m excited to paint them all during this extraordinary time at home.

Contact me for this little painting (8” x 8”, $195), or prints can be found here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/1-sunflower-anne-lewis.html?newartwork=true
