a perfect day

sugarbay.jpg

Every few days I find time to nap midday during Virginia’s Shelter in Place, and drift off thinking of this: the day trip to end all day trips…Sugar Bay, St. Lucia. It is even bluer and greener than I could make my oil paints show…and the sea life colors in the underwater nature preserve (just to the right of what you see here) make my eyes pop every time.

The day starts with a huge breakfast at the Windjammer before we meet our small boat on the beach. It’s exhausting to look at all that beautiful scenery while speeding down the western coast of St. Lucia, so rum punch is on offer (who am I to be rude and say no?). We stop and snorkel in the little inlet here between the Pitons, Sugar Bay. We’ve seen so many amazing creatures in the preserve, from squid to eel to that fabulous corgi-of-the-sea, the boxfish. Oh how I love that goofy creature with it’s tiny little fins. On the way back (exhaustion, etc), the Piton beers flow while the Bob Marley plays. A perfect day.
