These little robins are just the thing for me lately. Though I created them earlier this fall, their simplicity and sweetness are so welcome in my world now. Although it’s just January, this has been a school year to remember already, with a number of students in such tremendous need of support that I find the 27 minutes I can be alone mid-day crucial. Sometimes I read a few pages of a good book, other times I paint these little birds in a little makeshift space within my storeroom. Whatever I’m doing, I often think of that old Get Smart gag, the “Cone of Silence”. Remember the plastic dome that would encase Maxwell Smart? Sure it didn’t quite work, but what a fantastic idea for all of us who crave a little bit of silence and solitude each day to recharge.
I’ll be spending some time this spring mixing up my favorite ways to create…more text and collage in the backgrounds like you see here, some more abstraction…maybe even a little sculpture to crank up the imagination?
