Dragonflies fascinate me almost as much as hummingbirds. Add to that intrigue this notion of painting from dark to light, and this little painting emerged. This “blue-eyed darner” dragonfly’s wings just begged to be painted. Not only was I working light on dark, but going for the sheerness of his wings as well. In the process I learned that these beautiful predators spend most of their lives underwater, as nymphs. The flight part of a dragonfly’s life is short and sweet in comparison.
If you enjoy dragonflies as much as I do, this little blue eyed guy can be yours for $75. He’s just as lightweight as in real life, on a 5″x7″ panel. Prints can be found here, too: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/dragonfly-anne-lewis.html
