One of my favorite stories, ever…When Madeleine applied to Notre Dame, she said she wanted to be in the band. But she played the cello. Tenacious girl that she is, Madeleine rented a sax, found herself lessons, and progressed from her first saxophone note in January of 2015 to member of the Band of the Fighting Irish, August 2015. But that’s just her in a nutshell. The band director at her old middle school calls her “Rudy”. Of course I had to paint the band, trotting out of the tunnel pre-game. The collage parts are a bit of the crowd, the drum major’s coat (yes, that’s a chunk of the Victory March he’s wearing), and the football field lines are the lyrics to the same.

And here’s “Rudy”, below center, with some wonderful sax friends. So proud of you!
