Spain with Mattie was such a treat: seeing my beautiful girl, touring gorgeous cities, taking in all the ancient buildings, narrow cobblestone streets, convents with obscure systems for buying nun-made marzipan (really!). It only took me a couple days to figure out what Mattie was saying to the tapas bar servers, too: “A mi madre le gustaria otro vaso de vino tinto.”
One sunny early morning, Mattie took me for a run, for “the best view of Toledo”. I’m fairly certain she omitted the part that it was uphill for the first 3 miles or so, but that just allowed us to indulge in a bit more tapas later in the day. I couldn’t wait to paint it. The original is earmarked for the lovely host family who took such great care of Mattie, but prints can be found here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/toledo-spain-anne-lewis.html
And a little picture of the real runner in the family, at our run’s halfway point, and Mila and Antonio, Mattie’s amazing “Spanish parents”.
