This field of poppies took me by surprise on my first trip to Ireland. I was driving down a narrow road in County Offaly some years ago, and then…this. Let me tell you it’s not easy to pull over in rural Ireland, what with the stone walls and sheep traffic jams, but so worth it. I’d grown so accustomed to fields and fields of peaceful green that this sight stunned, and was so joyful to paint. Since I love all things Irish, the original lives with me, but prints of it are available through this link: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/irish-poppies-anne-lewis.html?newartwork=true
