Years ago, my dad took me to the Art Institute during one of our many visits to family in Chicago. I couldn’t have been much older than 10. We walked into a lofty gallery and stopped in our tracks at this, Georgia O’Keeffe’s Sky Above Clouds http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections/artwork/100858 :
Fast forward 36 years, and as I watched one of my son’s baseball games, I noticed the clouds above stacked in a similarly beautiful way. I was transported right back to the Art Institute and that gorgeous painting. I took a quick snap to paint my own clouds later, and thought fondly of that moment with my Dad as I put paint to canvas. The original is 10″x 10″ ($195), a far cry from Georgia’s 8 x 24 feet! Prints are available through this link: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/1-clouds-anne-lewis.html
I just love how terrific memories like this one can burst out of the cobwebs in a flash.
