In late 2007, the National Gallery hosted a retrospective of Edward Hopper’s work http://www.nga.gov/content/ngaweb/exhibitions/2007/hopper.html . I found an excuse to go back…five times…and bought the exhibition book. It is so well-thumbed now, with coffee spills here and there. Now when I go to the National Gallery, I make a beeline for the small room that holds paintings by two of my faves, Hopper and George Bellows. I believe I ought to have a dedicated bench there, with sandwich eating privileges ;), as I could stare at those paintings for hours.
Just for fun, I found an old black and white photo to kickstart this composition and added colors I thought Hopper might choose. The small original (6″x6″, $200) is up for grabs, and prints can be found here: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/inspired-by-hopper-anne-lewis.html
