My summer ended with an experience that left me deeply grateful for my friends. When I needed them most, these beautiful people jumped in and have showered me with love for weeks now, with compassionate and wise words, long walks, feasts delivered, dinners out and movie nights, lingering hugs, coffee breaks, girls’ wine nights, invitations to pub trivia, football games, and roller derby (!), poignant as well as hilarious suggestions for my beloved playlist, surprise gifts and cards in the mail, and one fine bottle of Barolo tucked inside my front door. Thanks to my friends, I am already beginning to experience again that blessing I’ve enjoyed so very much these last few years: waking up each day with a sense of joyful anticipation.
As I made this collage, I thought of these finest friends, who have woven a safety net for me as my heartache heals. Behind this healing heart is another net…just a few of those things that I love, or have found inspiring in my more difficult times, from Admiral McRaven’s lovely words to Owen Meany (one of the best passages John Irving ever wrote) to The Incredibles’ Edna Mode. And if you look hard enough, a nod to the Notorious B.I.G., who provided such a memorable laugh with my son not long ago. And oh how I do love a good laugh…
Next up…and you were warned…CORGI art, inspired by LL Cool J’s portrait at the National Portrait Gallery and the resounding success of Seamus’s Notre Dame Spring Tour 2017. Gotta get my silly on, stat.
Thanks, friends. XO.
