This is it, where the day starts with coffee and a good book. And on weekends, where the post-long run nap happens. The Red Chair. This favorite spot seemed a natural for trying out a new way of painting inspired by Janice Hayes-Cha’s vibrant collages. And for all those times I promised “no more corgi art”…well, this scene wouldn’t be accurate (or nearly as happy) without one.
Painting expressively involves letting go of perfect proportion, realistic color; painting more from memory and response to subject matter rather than accurate depiction. Think Van Gogh’s famous bedroom or Matisse’s gravity-defying goldfish bowl. It will take some time to get in the flow of it, but what a joyful process it is, sparking creativity in my home and work life, too. So much more to come…
