This must be the 46th version of turtle art I’ve made for my Dad. I think the nickname of “Dad Turtle” began when Dad turned 40 or so, and let me know he simply had “one more ring on his shell”. Well, today there are 86!
The happiest of birthdays to my gentle, thoughtful, wise, and hilarious dad: the dad who carried me around the house to marching band tunes, taught me basic algebra on the bluffs of the Missouri River (ha–so his lovely wife could attend Mass without having to keep unruly me in check!), borrowed my Walkman to listen to Billy Idol (and tried to pretend he liked it), drove 14 hours straight from St. Louis to be with me in a dark time, among so many other fond memories. He now pours my wine to the brim ;), barbeques a feast for his granddaughter and her fellow broke grad students, and opens his heart and mind to me every time we talk. Love you so much, Dad! Happy 86th!!
