One of the last few in this series of birds are these inquisitive nuthatches. Incidentally, they’re my nephew’s favorite bird thanks to their upside-down perching quirk. I looked like a bird in a paper nest finding the collage pieces for this. Picture me sitting on a rug ripping out this page and that, putting that chunk of map with that strip of ad. I almost gave up, until I saw a chunk of that wonderful Smithsonian article about Syria in the recycling bin. Just enough left of the old maps to make some great nuthatch bellies. I love how they complement the homemade fruit leather photo turned into a branch. Inspiration is everywhere…even in the trash.
The original (5×7,$95) is ready for a new home if you contact me, or prints can be found here https://fineartamerica.com/featured/white-breasted-nuthatch-anne-lewis.html?newartwork=true
