This past year I’ve discovered so many trails at Rock Creek Park in D.C. Clare takes riding lessons near several trail heads, so whenever I’m her ride, I’m ready: a map of the day’s run in my head, trail shoes in the trunk, and a sense of expectation and wonder at what lies ahead. Even if I take the same route twice, it’s never the same. Did it rain? Are the leaves changing? Frost on the ground? Will I get pelted with acorns on the Valley Trail…again? Have a corgi sighting? Always a good omen for the week ahead ;). There’s just nothing quite like navigating roots and jumping over logs and puddles, and the sound of the creek gently churning or gushing, depending on the day. The miles just fly by as I run through these magnificent trails of our nation’s 3rd national park (really, before Yosemite!).
