As I started to consider this post, I tried to remember how many pets we’ve had in our little family. So many I’ve lost count, including the doomed goldfish Mort 1, Mort 2, and Mort 3. I didn’t have the heart to tell 4 year old Clare that the Latin roots of this name she chose might be the problem. We’ve moved on from fish (so hard to cuddle), and have since hosted a Parade of Rodents. Most recently, our beloved Mango the Guinea Pig passed away. These little creatures are so cuddly, and SO incredibly full of personality. Mango was a hoot, incredibly demanding and a bit dictatorial with her housemate Kiwi, which earned her the politically incorrect nickname Kim Jong Il. This painting is for Clare, who loves these little rodents so deeply. If you are a fellow Admirer of Guinea Pigs, Mango’s portrait print can be found here: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/mango-anne-lewis.html
I am starting a portrait of my wonderful friend Jeanine’s yellow labs soon, so keep in mind that custom pet portraits are tremendous fun, should you want to memorialize your own cuddly creatures.
